I wanted to send an update in regards to the Oregon Chapter. As the national office knows, we recently received our 501(3) (c) declaration and we have been off to the races! Last week, we have reviewed and selected 3 scholarships recipients. Two recipients are twins who lost their father to a work place injury. The ability to help them with their education is very special to me as I was the WC Manager at the time for this company. I stood by the deceased waiting for OSHA and then needed to give the horrible news to the family. The twins were toddlers at the time but I remember thinking, how will this change their lives? Our third recipient is just as worthy and we are so happy to be part of her future. This week also provided for large single source donation from Schnitzer Steel Industries in the amount of $5000.00! This donation joins Majors Health Systems, and 2 personal individual donations. We have had 3 large meeting opportunities to discuss our mission and we hope to be receiving additional donations in the near future.Other updates include:

  • The presentations were held at the Oregon Self- Insurers Annual conference. This generated a dedicated OSIA person to coordinate fundraiser efforts within their group.
  • A mass safety meeting at a large construction site showed the Erika Clapsy video. My understanding that in a crowd of 1500 workers you could hear a pin drop. The project wants to immediately do a fundraising campaign.
  • A Labor leader meeting took place where both our Labor Council Member and Oregon State Ombudsman presented. The meeting resulted in another nice donation.
  • We will also be presenting at the next Oregon RIMS Chapter meeting.

Finally, (as if it couldn't get much better!), SAIF Corporation came out with the "100 Faces of Change" book. Pages 96 and 97 are dedicated to Kids' Chance of Oregon. We are just so excited!Linda BarnoPresidentKids' Chance of OregonInterested in learning more about Kids' Chance of Oregon?
