“Receiving this scholarship has been a huge honor for me and my family,” said Tyran, a Louisiana Bar Foundation Kids’ Chance Scholarship Program recipient.
We’re proud to announce that Tyran is also the 2021 recipient of the Jim Hudak and Sally Silvia scholarship.
Dee Jones, a longtime coordinator with LBF Kids’ Chance, nominated Tyran. “I am beyond thrilled that Tyran was selected to receive the Jim Hudak and Sally Silvia Scholarship. Tyran comes from a community that has endured many challenges, yet he has a great foundation for success, and I can’t wait to see what he accomplishes moving forward. The benefit of Jim and Sally’s generosity is immeasurable, it will have such a positive impact on Tyran and his community.”
Tyran is LBF Kids’ Chance’s only freshman for the incoming 2021-2022 school year. He graduated with a 3.0 from St. Augustine High School in New Orleans, a school whose band is famous in New Orleans Mardi Gras parades and for building young men of character.
He also indicated in his scholarship application that he planned to work 20 hours a week. It’s difficult to maintain a full-time course load and work part-time.
That’s where the Kids’ Chance scholarship comes in.
Kids’ Chance state organizations across the country provide scholarships to children of workers who have been seriously or fatally injured on the job. Through the support of Jim Hudak and Sally Silvia there is now a national scholarship available each year, providing additional support to state scholarship programs. Each state organization may submit one of their kids as a candidate every year.
“We are so pleased that Tyran, one of our scholarship recipients, is receiving the Jim Hudak and Sally Silvia Scholarship from Kids’ Chance of America,” said Chris Ralston, President of the Louisiana Bar Foundation under which the Kids’ Chance scholarship program exists. “Education transforms lives and makes dreams come true - and so does Kids’ Chance. On behalf of the Louisiana Bar Foundation Kids’ Chance Scholarship Program, thank you Jim Hudak and Sally Silvia for establishing this generous endowment to help the children of injured workers with unmet financial needs.”
For Tyran, the scholarship speaks to where he’s come from -- and where he’s going.
“The Kids' Chance scholarship reflects on the hard work I accomplished over the years,” said Tyran. “This scholarship will allow me to prosper in both my college life and career.”
