Raises $55,000 to support children of parents killed or injured in workplace accidentsGlen Allen, VA (June 25, 2015) – More than 100 golfers turned out yesterday to support Kids’ Chance of Virginia, a local non-profit organization that provides college scholarships to children of Virginia workers who have been killed or catastrophically injured in a workplace accident. The event raised almost $55,000 and drew golfers from across the state and surrounding region. 100% of the donations will be used to fund scholarships. Virginia Insurance Commissioner, Jacqueline K. Cunningham, attended the event and spoke with golfers and scholarship recipients.“This event is an excellent opportunity to bring together businesses and individuals from different industries to support an important cause. This year, Kids’ Chance of Virginia will fund more than $100,000 in scholarships for children who might otherwise miss out on the opportunity for secondary education,” said John Goldwater, the chapter’s president and current president-elect of Kids’ Chance of America. The winners of Wednesday’s tournament included Doug Russell, Scott Rittenhouse, Rob Standen and Tom Lynch.Since it was founded in 2011, Kids’ Chance of Virginia has provided scholarships for Virginia students and has consistently increased the number of scholarships they fund each year. The Virginia chapter of Kids’ Chance was founded by a group of companies involved in the Virginia workers’ compensation market. The group awards post-secondary scholarships to deserving high school graduates whose families have been greatly impacted by work related injuries. To learn more about Kids’ Chance and how you can donate or volunteer, visit www.kidschanceva.org.
