Benefactors Establish John and Sandy Goldwater Family Fund for Scholarships
John Goldwater and his wife Sandy, dedicated supporters of Kids’ Chance, have donated $250,000 to the Kids’ Chance of America Endowment. In doing so, they have established a fund that will help Kids’ Chance of America expand its mission to provide scholarships to children of workers who have been seriously or fatally injured on the job.
The John and Sandy Goldwater Family Fund is structured to get money into the hands of the young people who need it most.
“We want to provide the board with maximum flexibility to support the states and projects that will help get more scholarships to more kids,” John said. “Our hope is to grow this gift, so Kids’ Chance of America can identify the greatest need across the country and put the money where it will do the most good.”
The fund represents the commitment of the entire Goldwater family, including their four sons. The Goldwaters’ son, Adam, said it’s a privilege to carry on the commitment and further grow Kids’ Chance.“
The Kids’ Chance mission serves as a beacon of hope in providing life-changing opportunities to future generations who have overcome tragic circumstances,” he said. “As someone who has had the opportunity to participate in several Kids’ Chance events and to know several past recipients, I have seen the impact the organization has had on both their life and their family’s lives.”
John Goldwater is a senior executive at W.R. Berkley, a giant in the insurance industry. He has been involved with Kids’ Chance of America since 2008 when he was building Berkley Net Underwriters.
“I thought our company should be connected to the community we serve,” he said. “Today, many Berkley associates are involved in Kids' Chance organizations throughout the United States.”
The fund continues the Goldwaters’ dedication to Kids’ Chance, said Victoria Burkhart, Executive Director of Kids’ Chance of America.
“John has served Kids’ Chance on both the state and national levels,” she said. “The organization has benefited from his wisdom and business insights, as well as his heart, with John and Sandy taking a personal interest in the young people Kids’ Chance serves.”
Established by a workers’ compensation lawyer in Georgia in 1998, Kids’ Chance has evolved into a diverse community working together to make a difference in the lives of all children affected by a workplace injury by helping them achieve their educational dreams. Collectively, Kids’ Chance organizations have awarded over 7,300 scholarships totaling over 24 million dollars.
