A Message From Kids’ Chance President John Goldwater
What an exciting time for Kids’ Chance of America! We have achieved so much together over the past several years. Our ever-growing number of talented volunteers, partners, board members – and of course our “Kids”- join a community dedicated to helping students affected by a workplace injury pursue their educational goals.
This tremendous organizational growth has advanced founder Bob Clyatt’s original dream of a Kids’ Chance in every state. We have gained a real sense of momentum, increasing our funds through the generosity of our wonderful partners, providing our member states with additional scholarship funding to reach more students, convening our Council of State Organizations regularly to share best practices and provide valuable input to the national office, and most importantly, gaining real traction with our Planning for College initiative, which has assembled a large pipeline of current and future applicants.

“One week after moving back to my family, I was shopping at the Sheboygan Mall with my cousin. We looked at clothes, shoes, nail polish, and everything else a 12 year old girls would love. As we looked through the jewelry section of Claire’s, I lost it. I came across a necklace that said, “Daddy’s Little Princess”. That’s when it hit me. Everything in the past year slammed into me like I hit a wall. I wasn’t Daddy’s Little Princess anymore, I was just the girl who lost her dad.
Now that I’m 18 and graduated high school in only three years, It was time to look towards my next steps. I hold my education very close to my heart, and I knew the day I toured, that Ripon College was my next chapter in life. However, with only one source of income for the past five years, a private liberal college didn’t seem like an option.
Kids Chance of Wisconsin gave me the opportunity to better myself and my education affordably. Thanks to them, I can continue on a path of success and make my dad proud.”
Our Faces of Kids’ Chance community continues to grow. Please encourage your recipients to share their story through our online form. We can’t wait to meet them.
