The WHAM, which is the weekly internal newsletter of Missouri Employer's Mutual Insurance Company (MEM), published the following article about two recent events that supported Kids' Chance of Missouri:
Kids' Chance Receives Surprise at Safety Summit Last week at the 2014 Damage Prevention and Excavation Summit, more than 1,500 people from across the Midwest attended free classes and business exhibits to learn the ins and outs of jobsite safety. Missouri Employers Mutual has been a longstanding supporter of the summit, but also has an even longer relationship with Kids’ Chance of Missouri, a not-for-profit organization that provides post-high school scholarships to children of Missouri workers killed or disabled on the job.Former Kids’ Chance President Bob Keefe, who accepted an $11,724.50 check from MEM last month, attended the Summit and spoke to more than 500 attendees about Kids’ Chance and how they can help the children of injured workers. He also received a surprise donation from Missouri Common Ground Alliance.“This was a wonderful opportunity to let so many workers know that Kids' Chance of Missouri can help college-age children of injured workers,” said Keefe. “The $2,000 check to Kids' Chance was generous and unexpected. The opportunity to address their members would have been enough all by itself.”While on stage, Bob spoke briefly about the benefits to receiving money that converts directly to tuition, room, board, books and fees for needy students, as well as the partnership with Missouri Employers Mutual.“Missouri Employers' Mutual has been such a longstanding and generous supporter of Kids' Chance that I sound like a broken record when I thank them,” said Keefe. “There are the obvious benefits to receiving money that converts directly to tuition, room, board, books and fees for needy students. This year we had a record number of applicants, just as this year brought us historically high tuition costs, but there are subtle benefits as well. Knowing that MEM ‘has our back’ allows us to be a little more adventurous in our other fundraising. We rely on MEM, and we thank you.”For more information about Kids’ Chance of Missouri, visit their website, or contact MEM employees Greg Goodwin or Gailyn Strobing, who are Kids’ Chance of Missouri volunteers and Board of Directors members.
