Jim Ryan Shares Why Sedgwick Supports the Kids’ Chance Mission

Sedgwick has been a proud partner of Kids' Chance of America since 2011. A leading global provider of technology-enabled risk, benefits, and integrated business solutions with more than 27,000 colleagues, located across 65 countries, Sedgwick delivers quality service in areas such as workers’ compensation, liability, property, disability, and absence management.

Jim Ryan, Sedgwick Chief Operating Officer of the Americas, said, “Working with Kids’ Chance of America is a way for me to give back to the industry. My involvement gives me such joy and personal fulfillment.”

A Natural Fit

For Jim, the partnership with Kids' Chance is a natural one. “As a Sedgwick team, we do everything we can to support families in their time of need following a catastrophic workers’ compensation injury for their loved one or a devastating loss of life,” said Jim. “I am proud to be a colleague of Sedgwick, a corporation that wants to support families further by giving back to Kids’ Chance.”

The Sedgwick team assists in the Kids' Chance mission by helping lead the industry in establishing a stronger Kids' Chance presence in all 50 states. They help build national awareness and provide financial support on a state-by-state basis. “Sedgwick is deeply committed to Kids' Chance of America and our colleagues serve on state organization boards in California, Michigan, New York, Texas -- and others.”

Sedgwick's commitment to Kids' Chance starts at the top. Jim explained, “our entire executive team and numerous colleagues have rallied behind Kids’ Chance. Dave North, our Executive Chairman, made a commitment to the program over 10 years ago.” Jim himself has accepted a role on the board, and many others at Sedgwick have also joined in various roles and activities over the years.

Sedgwick also assists Kids' Chance in identifying potential scholarship applicants. “Our Planning for the Future initiative serves a critical function in helping us to identify the kids,” said Vicki Burkhart, Kids’ Chance of America Executive Director. “We’re grateful to the targeted work our partners do to support it.”

A Culture of Charity and Caring

The partnership with Kids’ Chance aligns with Sedgwick’s goal to serve and support the community and have a strong charitable footprint. This is an integral part of their corporate culture. “Our colleagues appreciate nominating children of injured workers and helping them obtain a scholarship,” Jim said. “It is rewarding to our adjusters, nurses, and offices to be involved with such a great organization.”

Jim strongly advocates that other organizations get involved with Kids' Chance. “Jump in, get involved!” he shared. “It will make a big difference in your day-to-day work. You will find that taking some of your time and energy to support the charitable work of Kids’ Chance and give back to those in need will help you focus on what matters most.”

Helping Injured Workers

For many members of the workers’ compensation industry, Kids’ Chance is a natural extension of the work they do every day.

Jim is one of the standout leaders in our community, but we are fortunate to have so many volunteers and supporters across the country committed to our goal of #MoreMoneyforMoreKids.

With 49 state organizations, we’re always looking for more. Reach out to Kids’ Chance of America if you’d like to get involved at the national level or get in touch with the organization in your state today.
